Security Officer

Description:

The High School Security Guard ensures the safety and security of students, staff, and school property. This role involves monitoring school premises, enforcing school policies, and responding to incidents to maintain a secure and orderly environment conducive to learning.

  • Monitor school grounds, buildings, and parking lots to prevent and detect signs of unauthorized entry, vandalism, or other suspicious activities.
  • Conduct regular patrols and inspections of school facilities.
  • Manage access to the school premises, ensuring only authorized individuals enter the school grounds.
  • Check identification and issue visitor passes as required.
  • Respond promptly to incidents, disturbances, or emergencies, and take appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Assist in the evacuation of the school during emergencies and conduct drills as needed.
  • Enforce school rules and regulations regarding student conduct, dress code, and behavior.
  • Address violations and report infractions to school administration.
  • Monitor student behavior in hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and other common areas to ensure a safe environment.
  • Report safety hazards or maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Mediate conflicts among students and between students and staff, employing conflict resolution strategies.
  • Provide support and assistance to students experiencing difficulties.
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, incidents, and security breaches.
  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents for administrative review.
  • Work closely with school administration, teachers, and other staff to maintain a positive and secure school atmosphere.
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
  • Participate in training sessions on school safety, first aid, conflict resolution, and other relevant topics.
  • Stay informed about current safety and security best practices and trends.
  • Testing security systems and, if needed, operating X-ray machines and metal detectors
  • Using provided communication devices such as two-way radios in a clear and concise manner
  • Performing CPR or first aid when needed
Highly Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training in security, law enforcement, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience: Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or working with youth is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Strong observational and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
    • Physical fitness and the ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and security training certifications are advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits
  • PTPLA pay is highly competitive. To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the Oklahoma Department of Education pay scale. This position is exempt and will follow a 12-month work schedule.
  • Robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance policy options. Application for these benefits may be made immediately upon employment. The policy is effective upon the first of the month following the first day of work.
  • Retirement System plan (403B)available.
  • The vacation package for salaried employees includes 10 paid days throughout the 10 month work schedule (including holidays, fall break, thanksgiving break, winter break), as well as summer break.
  • Adoption/Parental Caregiver Leave- up to 8 weeks parental leave for the primary caregiver and 2 weeks parental leave for the secondary caregiver available.
  • Teachers are provided with laptop computers with access to the internet and or email to assist them in performing their job responsibilities.
